Thanks to Przemysław for writing this section.

The FIP ticket for Polish State Railways (PKP S.A.) is honored on trains operated by the following carriers:

  • PKP InterCity – long-distance trains and EC – international trains
  • POLREGIO S.A – regional trains in most voivodeships in Poland + selected long-distance connections (SR, IR)
  • Koleje Mazowieckie-KM (KM) – regional trains in the Masovian Voivodeship. The FIP ticket is not honored on the seasonal Słoneczny train from Warsaw to Gdynia and Ustka
  • PKP Szybka Kolej Miejska w Trojmiescie (PKP SKM) – suburban trains in the Pomeranian Voivodeship
  • Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa (WKD) – regional trains in the Masovian Voivodeship on lines nr 47 and nr 48, managed by this carrier (Warsaw Śródmieście WKD – Podkowa Leśna Główna – Grodzisk Mazowiecki Radońska / Milanówek Grudów)

Other carriers operating in Poland require separate FIP tickets (each carrier requires a ticket specifying the carrier). These include Koleje Wielkopolskie (KW), Koleje Śląskie (KŚ), Koleje Dolnośląskie (KD), and Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna (ŁKA).

In Poland, there are also trains operated by other carriers who are not members of FIP, and neither FIP tickets nor FIP discount cards are honored on these trains.

Regional carriers (PKP SKM, POLREGIO, KM, WKD) do not have seat reservations or additional charges for FIP tickets. Only in selected trains (KM Słoneczny train from Warsaw to Gdynia and Ustka) and charter trains (not included in the timetable), FIP tickets are not honored.

Depending on the train category and rolling stock type, different surcharges and reservation requirements apply for domestic travel (travel exclusively within Poland using PKP IC trains):

  • Express Intercity Premium (EIP) – seat reservation is mandatory with an additional fee and must be purchased before the journey begins. Otherwise, even if you have a valid Interrail or Eurail Pass, you will be treated as a passenger without a valid ticket! You can buy it at bilet.intercity.pl, at ticket offices of PKP Intercity and other railway carriers in Poland for 43 PLN. You can buy them at ticket offices of selected railway authorities outside Poland for €100 or similar. If you have a reservation for e.g. €3, you will be asked to pay an additional 43 PLN on the train.
  • Express Intercity (EIC) – seat reservation is not mandatory but is possible. Single tickets are sold with a seat reservation, so if a passenger with a reservation boards the train, you must give up your seat. You can also travel standing if all seats are reserved.
You can purchase it on the website bilet.intercity.pl, at PKP Intercity ticket offices, and other railway carriers in Poland, or at ticket offices of selected railway administrations outside of Poland.
For travel in the comfort zone (4-seat compartments in 1st class of selected EIC trains), a full surcharge is required (50 PLN from Monday to Friday or 25 PLN on Saturdays and Sundays). You can purchase it at PKP Intercity ticket offices and other railway carriers in Poland.
  • Intercity (IC) – seat reservation is mandatory for selected trains operated by electric multiple units ED161 PesaDart. Travel without a reservation will be considered as traveling without a ticket.
These trains are marked with in the timetable.
You can purchase the reservation on the website bilet.intercity.pl, at PKP Intercity ticket offices, and other railway carriers in Poland, or at ticket offices of selected railway administrations outside of Poland.
  • In other Intercity (IC) and Twoje Linie Kolejowe (TLK) trains (coaches with seats), seat reservation is optional (marked a in the timetable). However, if someone with a reservation claims the seat, you must give it up. We recommend purchasing a reservation because single ticket buyers receive a seat reservation along with the ticket. Therefore, not having a reservation for Interrail or Eurail may result in standing during the journey.
You can purchase it on the website bilet.intercity.pl, at
PKP Intercity ticket offices, and other railway carriers in Poland, or at ticket offices of selected railway administrations outside of Poland.
  • Intercity (IC) and Twoje Linie Kolejowe (TLK) – sleeping or couchette compartments – for Interrail or Eurail, you must purchase a reservation with a full surcharge depending on the type of place. Additional tickets (reservation + surcharge) are available at ticket offices of selected railway administrations outside of Poland, PKP Intercity ticket offices, and other railway carriers in Poland.
  • EIC and IC trains from Warsaw, Gdynia, and Przemyśl to Berlin – it is mandatory to purchase a Pass tariff ticket for €4.00 (payable in PLN in Poland) at the ticket office, including a seat reservation.
  • Other daytime trains to/from Poland – it is possible to purchase a seat reservation for €3.50 (payable in PLN in Poland).

Holders of FIP coupons for private travel are obliged to purchase a ticket in the FIP Coupon tariff, while holders of the International Discount Card for Railway Personnel are obliged to purchase a ticket in the FIP Leisure/FIP Private offer. You can choose seats: sitting, reclining, or sleeping. Prices depend on the train and type of seat.

Poland shares borders with non-FIP countries (Ukraine, Belarus, Russia) – entry to these countries with an FIP ticket from PKP is not possible – you must purchase a ticket from the border to your destination station or have an OSŻD ticket for the corresponding travel route.
